Mr Horton was the constituency chairman for William Hague in Richmond between 1996–1999.
Mr Horton said:
"I did not leave the Tory Party the Tory party left me."He joined UKIP last year saying that the Conservatives had abandoned their core values—especially on Europe.
He was a founder and managing director of Radio Tees and also had interests in local radio stations in York, Scarborough and Sunderland. Presently he runs a television production company and is involved in a magazine publishing concern.
Mr Horton, who is married with four children, said:
"I am glad I am not representing the Tories this time round. They are in complete disarray and seem to have no policies at all."
